Setting up Loopback. Download Loopback - open the zip and add it your Mac’s Applications folder. When you open Loopback, the home menu appears. Select the + New Virtual Device button - “Loopback Audio” appears (you can change it to another name later on if you want). Under Audio Sources click on the + button, then choose the applications or devices you want to capture audio. Rogue Amoeba took it over and brought it up to speed with Loopback. I use one loopback device to route the local mic audio from the Focusrite into whatever application I am using: Skype, Discord, or Google Hangouts. Another one routes the audio output of any application to Reaper via the composite device.

If your applications of choice don't let you select an audio device, SAR has you covered: you can define per-application routing rules which will override the Windows default audio device settings. You can even use pattern matching to define rules for groups of applications.
It's also fast. SAR operates inline with your existing ASIO driver, adding no additional buffer latency to your DAW, and uses WaveRT for direct low latency transport of audio between applications. This is in contrast to many other 'virtual audio cable' type drivers which often require buffer sizes as large as 50-100ms to work reliably.
how use?
You need 3 things: the SAR driver, an ASIO driver for your sound card (if it's good, it came with one, otherwise get ASIO4ALL), and DAW software. If you don't already have a DAW, use REAPER. If you do, I assume you don't need me telling you how to set it up, so have fun.

Virtual Audio Cable (VAC) is an audio bridge between applications that transmits sounds (audio streams) from app to app, from device to device.
VAC creates a set of virtual audio devices. Each device simulates an audio adapter (card) whose output is internally connected to the input, making a loopback. If an application plays audio to the output, the sound will not be audible because the signal is looped back to the input. But if another application records from the input, it receives the sound produced by the first app.
Such virtual devices are named Virtual Cables. The 'Virtual Cable' term is used only in VAC description, as a placeholder. Actual device/endpoint names that you will see in applications' windows, are different (for example, 'Line 1', 'Line 2' etc.).

Each side of any Virtual Cable can be used by several apps at the same time. Sounds directed to the same playback endpoint are mixed. From the recording endpoint, each app gets its own copy of the sound.
